Two built–in high bandwidth servo control topology options

Used In:

  •  Any Servo Application

Sampling rate is an important aspect in servo drives and their quality is usually characterized by performance parameters such as, servo drive bandwidth and controller sampling time. Moreover, a system may become unstable if the sampling frequencies are too low.

According to the Nyquist criterion, sampling frequency should be at least twice as high as the error signal bandwidth.

Elmo’s intelligent servo drive has two high bandwidth servo control topology options:

Control Topology

In this mode, the current, position and velocity loop controllers have the same frequency bandwidth (sample time):

Control scheme

  • Control loop sampling time reduced to 60µs (16.6kHz)
  • Velocity loop sampling time reduced to 60µs (16.6kHz)
  • Position loop sampling time reduced to 60µs (16.6kHz)

Control Topology

In this mode, the current loop controller has double the frequency bandwidth (sample time) than the position/velocity control loop.

Control scheme

  • Control loop sampling time reduced to 50µs (20 kHz)
  • Velocity loop sampling time reduced to 100µs (10 kHz)
  • Position loop sampling time reduced to 100µs (10 kHz)

Design Features

  • Rapid control loop sampling time, high controller bandwidth
  • Servo efficiency improvement
  • Improve margin stability
  • High servo performance
